Prize Winners of each Section
SectionI String Quartet
First Prize
Henschel Quartett / Germany
Formed in 1988, the Henschel Quartett has performed in England, Holland, Russia, the US and Japan. They received 1st prize at the International Charles Hennen Competition in 1993 and two years later won the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg as well as receiving two prizes at the International String Quartet Competition in Evian. The quartet has worked with the Melos, Alban Berg and Amadeus Quartet.
Second Prize
Quartet Excelsior / Japan
Formed in 1992. Gained the highest score at the Toho Gakuen Chamber Music Audition for two years running (1994-1995). They visited Wien in 1994 to participate in Budapest International Summer Academy in Austria by the recommendation of the Toho Gakuen.
Third Prize
The Murrumbidgee Quartet / Germany
Finalists in the Mendelssohn Competition. Currently studying with the Alban Berg Quartett. Concerts scheduled in Australia and the United States from February to April 1996.
SectionII Chamber music from Trio to Nonet excluding String Quartet. Organization by violin, viola, cello, contrabass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and piano.
First Prize
Ligeti String Trio / France
Formed in 1994 by students of the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. Since 1994 the trio has played in concerts and festivals in Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France. Invited to the “Hindemith” Music Festival in Switzerland scheduled for June 1996, and to the “Musicades”) Chamber Music Festival in France in September 1996.
Second Prize
Ison Ensenble Vienna / Austria
Formed in 1994 by three experienced professionals. The ensemble won 1st prize in the Brahms International Chamber Music Competition in Austria in 1994. Concert tours to Switzerland, Slovakia, Germany, and Italy.
Third Prize
Zurich Piano Trio / Switzerland
The members first met at the festival, “1st International Jerusalem Music Encounters” in 1993 and formed the trio. They won 1st prize at the International Chamber Music Competition “Charles Hennen” in Holland. Invited to the Orland Festival (Holland), and to the 50th Anniversary of the Rubin Academy.
Festa Ensembles consisting of 2-6 performers. The combinations are free.
Menuhin Gold Prize
ARS Insteumentalis Pragensis / Czech
Formed in 1987. Works on interpreting Baroque music of 17th and 18th centuries, as well as on re-discovering Czech pre-classical composers.
Silver Prize
Duo Ludwig / Germany
“Discovered” and taught by the “Alban Berg Quartet”. Has given many concerts abroad, such as Italy, France, Belgium, and Switzerland. Participated in the “Daros Music Festival”.
Bronze Prize
The Wihan Quartet / Czech
Formed in 1985 by students of the Prague Academy of Performing Arts. They won 1st prize in the Contest of Czechoslovak Music schools, 2nd prize in the Beethoven’s Hradec Competition, and 1st prize in the International Prague Spring Music Contest and the Young Czech Musicians’ Contest.
