ABOUT

We have been holding the “Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa” once every three years since 1993, to create performance opportunities for young ensembles devoted to chamber music and to promote chamber music in this country. 33 years after the establishment, we launch the 12th edition in this year of 2026.

“Osaka International Chamber Music Competition” invites devoted young chamber musicians from across the world to recognize their performances and to promote their international exchanges.

“Osaka International Chamber Music Festa” welcomes not only classical music, but also ethnic music and traditional instruments. It is a unique music festival without any parallel in the world for which selection process is done by voting from public audiences.

What kind of vivid performances can we see on the stage this year? All the music is open to the public in the venues, and the selection processes can be seen online from all over the world.

This is a significant chance to experience distinguished performances of exceptional ensembles from around the world. Don’t miss this opportunity to feel the “frontline” of chamber music world!

  1. Competition jury members from past prize winners

Our more than 30 years of history produced world renown artists. Among them, we assigned Ms. Monika Henschel (viola/Germany) who won the first prize at 2nd edition, as the chairperson of jury and Mr. Alasdair Tait (cello/UK) who won the first prize at 3rd edition, as a jury member.

  2. New Commissioned String Quartet

A composer renowned around the world, Mr. Kenji Sakai wrote the new work String Quartet No. 2 “Floating Particles” which will be premiered at the 3rd round of Section I as the compulsory repertoire.

  3. Collaborative Partners around the world

We have collaborative partnerships with 6 competitions and festivals from 5 countries which will accommodate our contestants to their concerts or masterclasses as the special awards of our competition. This will be continuous career support for young ensembles provided through this competition.

  4. First round of Festa at Toyama and Mie prefecture

To present the joy of the music of Festa outside Osaka, first round of Festa will be held in Toyama Prefecture Takaoka Culture Hall and Mie Pref. Fine Arts Center. Both venues have beautiful acoustics and provide precious experiences to artists and audiences.

  5. Inaugural “Ensemble SHOWCASE”

The ensembles of Festa which will miss the opportunity to the Semifinal round will appear at the concert “Ensemble SHOWCASE” in Sumitomolife Izumi Hall in Osaka. It provides the Festa ensembles with further chances to present their various music culture and let them intercommunicate together by staying in Japan throughout the event.
